Black Li and White Li

Lao She

Two brothers with conflicting beliefs attempt to navigate the rapidly changing world of late 1920s China. The elder, Black Li, respects traditions and finds salvation in a new faith. The younger, White Li, is committed to modernity and motivated by revolutionary fervour. With a climax based on actual historical events, Lao She’s tale reflects how different responses to Western beliefs affected the fabric of Chinese society.
